Dead battery on Studio 1535

This is 1.5 years old machine. When I log in now, I get a dialog box saying thta my battery is able to charge normally but its nearing its end of life. However for past 1 week or so, I see that the battery shows 0% charge and says "Not charging" even though the AC adpater is plugged in. Laptop works fine as long as AC power is on but the moment one removes it rightway goes to sleep.

Can some one tell me if this is a battery issue or a bad apapter? I dont want to order a brand new battery only to find that even that doesn't charge with my adpater?

Also isnt 1.5 years too short for a battery to die like this?

My D610 batteries last for a year - it depends on the recharge cycles and foremost the ambient temperature.

The batteries I use have the worst life possible - recharged beyond recognition and high ambient temps.

Now do this:

Go into BIOS setup, check if adapter and battery are listed other than "unknown".

If either is listed as "unknown", battery is not charged.

If that's the case you've been hit by the infamous flaw in the DELL battery charging system.

Thanks for your reply. The BIOS shows adapter and battery correctly (90W adapter and Battery is listed as 0% charged and Not charging). So does this mean that its time for a new battery then?
