Deleting Dell PreBoot Users on Latitude E6400? Please Help!
Hello, I would very much appreciate if someone could help me on an issue I'm having with my new Latitude E6400. The issue involves Embassy security suite and Dell Pre-boot manager (All shipped with the laptop)
The laptop originally shipped with XP, and upgraded to Vista Ultimate ... Long story short, it's showing that I have 3 enrolled users (when really I should only have 1, myself). I would like to remove ALL of them. I have already looked at the softwares support/solution sections as well as Dell and Dell Forums.
I have already tried the following:
1. Changing the BIOS Admin/System Passwords
2. Clearing the TPM chip
3. Running deleteusers.exe in the Dell Pre-Boot Folder (From Vista and XP) - And trying to put that file with the dll file into a temp folder as suggested in older posts.
4. Did a BIOS restore Defaults
5. Opened the laptop and took out the round battery (I think that resets the CMOS or something)
I've tried the above several times in different order and when rebooting and opening the software, it still shows there are 3 users enrolled. I'm currently running Vista Ultimate SP1. I don't have any errors when enrolling my fingers at the moment, but I cannot delete the extra users that I don't need.

First, sorry for replying to you with a question as I do not have anything of value to add to your thread. But, since you are one of the few posts I've seen from people using the TPM modules on an E6400 with Vista ultimate, I thought I'd give it a go.
Do you find that your laptop sometimes doesn't come back from a Locked Screen with the TPM enabled or at other times?
I don't know if it is the broadcom tpm module, the embassy suite or what but I spend a lot of time force rebooting this thing. Sadly, I only have 1 or 2 more days in my 30 day return policy since I purchased it. I had hoped my problems were the defective Seagate 160gig 7200rpm hd I got with the laptop, but I got a new Fujitsu replacement yesterday and same nonsense.
I've read some posts where people mentioned defective motherboards cause TPM problems, but the DIAGS app shows all passing.
Anyway, if I run across something addressing your issue, I will be sure to post it.

Coming out of sleep/locked mode is fine for me...
Are you by anychange running PC-Cillin or Mcaffy? I know on the XPS models, there was a problem with those programs preventing the machine to return from sleep mode.
I'm actually getting very annoyed with this issue.. Especially since theres a deleteusers.exe app that doesn't do anything... And the Dell Pre-Boot Manager Documents solution on removing users is useless.
Since it's no secret or any private info, here is what I sent to DELL-Jimmy based on his post from 2006.
Good Afternoon, I recently received a Latitude E6400 with Windows XP. I have since then upgraded to Vista Ultimate SP1.
I'm having a very frustrating issue with Dell's PreBoot Manager. For some reason, I have 3 users enrolled when I should have one (probably because I was playing around with it). Anyway, I want to delete ALL of them...
I'm Sending you this message because I've seen you posted a solution in 2006, however this solution no longer works for me. I have tried the method posted in both Windows XP Pro as well as Vista Ultimate. I have also tried the methods indicated on Wave's website as well as the "Help Documents" for Embassy.
As indicated in the Help Documents, resetting the TPM chip and change the BIOS admin/system passwords have no effect. Currently, the deleteusers.exe is no longer found in a temp folder, but in the directory above it. (I've tried moving it into a temp folder as well with no luck).
Here is a link to my post, posted a few days ago.
Your assistance would be very appreciated.

I had the same problem you have/had(?) with a Latitude E6500, and i may have found an easy solution, though i'm not 100% sure it really works as i didn't recheck after all was fine again.
I suppose you have the swipe reader as i suspect the DeleteUser.exe should indeed work with the other fingerprint sensor? Anyway, there is a PrebootEnrollmentUtil.exe in the same location where the DeleteUser.exe. Make sure you have a (bios-)system password set and run console with admin rights from that directory. Enter the following commands (insering your password for *** of course) and it might just work again:
"PrebootEnrollmentUtil.exe r ***"
"PrebootEnrollmentUtil.exe x ***"
"PrebootEnrollmentUtil.exe c ***"
The second and third step might be unneccesary but i did them and as i said never looked back.
I suspect that there is some bug with deleting fingerprints from the preboot authentication database, at least in conjunction with the swipe reader and so one has to delete and recreate the database.
Good luck :)

YES!!! THANK YOU SOO MUCH! Your solution worked perfectly! :smileyvery-happy:
I don't understand how the general public have more solutions than dell tech support, the ones that should know the machines inside out, but I'm glad they do.
