Dell e6400 fan won't start?
Recently my e6400 overheated and i realized that the fan was not spinning at all. I ordered a new fan and it still wont spin. I spins for like half a second at start up, but thats it, even when im using the laptop it doesnt kick in. I noticed though that when I shut down the laptop with the power button the fan spins for about 3 seconds.
Is this the heatsink causing me this issue?

The fan is controlled by a thermistor - until a temperature setpoint is reached, the fan will not run.
The Dell diagnostics (F12 at powerup) can be used to verify the fan operation.

Where is the thermistor located? I've done some trouble-shooting and found that the fan is operational but the only time I see it work is for a second or two at power up and if I let the battery die the fan will spin for about 5-10 seconds as the battery dies.
I'm wondering if the thermistor is the issue and if so where is it? Is it on the heatsink? Because i'm thinking either new heatsink will fix or new mobo..
