Dell inspiron 5150 problems

I have a dell inspiron 5150, it has that motherboard shut down problem, and somehow i managed to get it started by pressing hard near the touchpad on the left, went to bios and disabled speed step technology, and now the laptop runs at 1.6GHz.The standard speed is 3.06GHz. Now the problems, i can't install windows xp, it installs until it says installing devices, where it needs to flicker the display, and it just freezes.I've tried installing windows vista, windows 2000 sp4, linux, they all work, but windows xp doesn't. Then, i have some problems with the left speaker, sometimes it works, sometimes it stops, and when a hit gently the laptop on the left side of the touchpad then the speaker starts to work again. The laptop passed the warranty period, so any ideas of debuging these problems are welcome. I've tried soldering the LVC14A chip, but still no success on starting the laptop at full speed and speed step enabled. laptop specs : Mobile Intel Pentium 4 3.06GHz, 533MHz FSB, 512MB of ram, ATI Radeon Mobility 9000, 40GB Hard drive, DVD/CDR-RW Combo, modem, lan, usb, 15.4" SUXGA display. 10x

Dell actually extended the warranty on these systems through 9/30/07, but it is open to question whether they'll cover a system with a home-soldering attempt. You can call to find out.

yea i know that, but i don't care..i don't have money to buy another motherboard, so my only sollution is to repair it, i know the problems are that LVC14A chip, and probably some imperfect contacts due to that c panel pressure. but why doesn't it install windows xp ? the graphics card works like a charm, i've tested it, tons of benchmarks, no errors at all.

i've just downloaded those, but there is no problem with the hard drive :) and the videocard works perfect, i can play most of games without any problem at all, 3dmark 2001, 3dmark 2003, 2005 and 2006, no problems at all...still windows xp won't install and i don't understand why. tomorrow i'll try to disassemble again the laptop and resolder that LVC14A chip and all those close to it, after a few tests i think some bad contacts cause the laptop to failt to start at full speed, and if a press near the touchpad on the left (there is a specific spot) the laptop starts as it should, and if i release, then freezes and eventually shuts down. :)

Have you run the Dell diagnostics on the hard drive to rule out a failing drive?

oh, and all utilities that i run to identify my processor tell me that the processor supports Hyper Threading Technology, but in device manager in windows vista only 1 processor is detected out of 2, 1 phisical and 1 virtual as it should. images with detailed specs of the processor : http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/9559/p4lg5.jpg http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/1013/p42bw4.jpg well, i'm a little confused
