Dell Latitude D610 dark screen problem

:emotion-7: Im new to this and not real computer savvy I dont know if its a big problem fix or a simple one.My laptop screen suddenly went dark I had a friend who looked at it and got the screen back after starting it in "Safe mode" it was fine for a day or two then went to use it (it was the normal screen)then it suddenly went dark again, almost like switching a light off you can actually see although dark and shadowy the start up screen etc. if I move the pointer round and" stab in the dark "I can connect as I can hear the start up music but cant really see to click on anything. So has anyone had this kind of issue and or does anyone know how to fix it? Regards Madibri...............

It's either a bad inverter or a bad backlight bulb.

I'd have to agree with ejn63, most likely it's an inverter or backlight, but you should open it up and make sure your cables are plugged in snuggly first before buying new parts - loose cables happen too. Check the flat silver cable on the back of the screen, the smaller leg on the same cable that goes to the inverter strip itself and the little 2-tooth plug that goes from the screen (backlight actually but you won't see the light itself) to the inverter. If they are all tight and still dim then replace your inverter first because it's the easiest, backlight next as it's more difficult and if neither works it's likely a systemboard problem.

Good Luck =)
