Dell Latitude E6400 contactless smartcard reader
Hallo ,
I have an unresolved question about the Dell Latitude E6400 contactless smartcard reader! How do i turn it off? When i first received my laptop in Oct 2008 among the first to ship out in Europe, i could use the Bios settings to turn it on and off, and also in the control point manager there was an option. after updating Bios and DCP software this optiones vanished. and now after installing Win7 64 Prof. the contact less smart card also fanished as one of the security options in the Security manager, now i have 3 green lights left instead of 4. Although none of the drivers seem to be missing, and the device manager doesnt show missing hardware either. Anyone have any ideas? Best Regards
And one more thing, as what does the contactless card reader appear in the device manager?!

When you installed Win 7 64-bit, did you also update the Control Vault firmware?
The contactless smartcard device should not appear in Device Manager, except when it is enabled by the software to read a card. When it is enabled, it creates a radio frequency field to energize the contactless card so it can read it; so it is off except when specifically reading a contactless card. It should appear in the software and there should be a "light" for it.
Unless you have plans to use a contactless card for pba, I'm not sure you need to worry about it all that much.
