Dell Latitude E6410 - start up issues
Hello,
On my e6410 WIN 8.1 is installed. After restart, cannot boot any more. After Dell logo nothing happened, just black screen and padlock 9 is on all the time.
- I tried to add from another laptop RAM, to test if current one is ok - everything the same
- I replaced Motherboard - everything the same
- Tried with new hard disk also - same issue
- once after 50 trials laptop succeed to start, and then is working normally
configuration is:
i7 processor with 8 gb RAM, intel graphic card.
Diagnostic tool wont start, it freeze after hitting diagnostic tool.
Same issue is with old motherboard before I replace to a new one.
I have no ideas any more.....

Hi Todd,
Thanks for effort. Finally I succeed to solve this issue. Motherboard was ok, it was short circuit on one of the usb ports, and that prevent windows to boot up. I changed USB port and everything is working just fine. :)
I changed almost everything and usb port was one of the last things I didn't try :(
Anyway, now is fine.
Best regards,
David

Hi,
Ouch. So you've basically replaced the motherboard, RAM, HDD, and still nothing? Quick question, did you use the same processor on the motherboards, or did you try a different one? I assume you tried connecting to an external monitor to see if anything else is visible other than the black screen?
If the onboard diagnostics don't run try running them from the website and see if that gets them to run. If it did start up correctly the one time maybe you can keep trying until it does start up, and then connect to the internet and run the Diags off the internet. Here is a link to the support page for the e6410 with the "Run Quick Test". See if that will run. If you can get the system back up and running.
Next question, power supply. Did you try different ones when running the tests? Did you check power connections to the system when trying new motherboards?
Just throwing out some quick ideas to see if we can figure this out.

Hi David,
How did you figure out that the probelm was with USB?
I'm kinda having similar problem with my Dell E6410 laptop. After hitting the power button, the screen turns completely blank.
Also, the padlock 9 LED turns on. Not sure what to do. Any advice please? Thanks.

Hi Mayur,
As you can see above in my answer I tried almost everything.
Change CMOS battery, replace motherboard, replace hard disk etc... so I didn't had so many options more, so I changed part where is audio port and 2 x usb on the right side of your laptop. After that everything is ok.

Thanks David for your response. I ran the online diagnostics and nothing came up.
Anyway, will have to do what you did if the problem doesn't resolve. Thanks
