Dell Latitude E6520 w/Finger Print Reader Question

Just purchased a Dell Latitude E6520 with the finger print reader but can't find any software or help on how to use. This is the first time I spent this much money and didn't even get a user's guide of some sort.

Any help on using the FP reader?

Thanks,

Jodi

Hi Jodi3

Reason for the error which is occurring while installing the patch might be because of the finger print application was not installed. First install finger print application from My Dell Download and then install the patch from support website.

You need to first install the finger print reader application from My Dell Downloads, click on the below to get the download page.

smartsource.dell.com/.../Welcome.aspx

Would recommend registering before downloading any applications.

After the application is downloaded, then you need to install the patch from the link below

www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats

Reboot the system once.

Kindly reply to the post, I shall be happy to assist you further.

Hello,

Like Blackspyder and Jodi, I'm frustrated with trying to get the fingerprint reader to work. I signed up for my dell downloads using the link above...but when I clicked to register the page would remain the same only the button would disappear. So, I can't register my laptop which means I also can't install the application for the finger print reader and then install the patch. I'm upset because I just bought this brand new laptop and this was listed as one of the features...however there is no user manual or help on how to set it up. I expected it to already be up and working like the rest of the laptop. Please help!!

Thanks!

Hi ramccallister

Welcome to the community

Thank you for detailed description of the issue that you are experiencing on your system.  I would request you to let me know your system model and date of purchase, as I require this information to identify if the system is eligible to register on My Dell Downloads website.

Also would like to know if you are using any other web browser apart from Internet Explorer as My Dell Downloads website works on Internet Explorer.

For Security related concerns, DO NOT post your system service tag, order number, customer number on Blogs/Forums.

Please do reply to the post.

Dell, like all others in forum, We've not found a way to utilize the fingerprint reader. We are here at Microsoft and have some pretty ingenious folks here. We have thousands of Dell laptops/desktops here in our various offices and headquarters in which we're quite familiar with the product lineup. The fingerprint reader we've not been able to utilize (except for Windows login). After login, it appears that the reader is useless. It isn't recognized by any of our OS's (WinXP, Win7, and tried Win8). It appears it needs a patch and/or completely different internal configuration. The specific model we're inquiring on is a E6420 w/ built in FPR. We've visited Dell in hopes to find a DigitalPersona program, with no luck. We did find the patch mentioned in the forum, but got the same error as previous users in the forum. Is there a program or any suggestions of whom to turn to for this software? Benjamin
