Dell N5110

I got a question. My laptop is still under warranty, but i lost my receipt :( but i still have my monthly payments in my bank history, Is there ANY way i can get a replacement for my broken one? :( I gave it for warranty 4 times already i think and it still comes back and in a week or so it starts acting bad again. Like overheating(sometimes i need to plug in a cooling pad so i don't hurt my hand). I think other issues are irrelevant due to overheating. I think everything was replaced in this thing except of screen :( and it still comes back and overheats! If there is any possible way i can get help here with replacing it even for a bit worse but more stable model i would be SO happy! I can't even play League of Legends because 15min ingame it starts to burst flames and fps drops to 10-15... I can't afford a new laptop and my warranty is ending soon and i just ended my payments for it...

Hi Dilos,

Your warranty coverage is documented by your service tag and / express service code which are both located on the bottom of your machine. The N5110 was released in 2010 or 2011 so I'm not sure about your warranty status. You can go to THIS LINK and enter your service tag number or let Dell System Detect do it for you and then check your warranty status.

Without any history about what work has been performed on that system it's difficult to offer assistance. The more details you can provide aside from simply overheating the better. All symptoms are relevant in a troubleshoot so try to include as much information as you can like Updates and Upgrades. What was done under warranty service already, Does this problem coincide with any particular activity etc etc.

If I put in a request for escalation of your complaint, will you have this information documented? Dell will undoubtedly ask for it. Some companies (I'm not sure about Dell) will simply replace with a model of similar feature set if you have warranty service performed 3 times without success. If ALL this warranty work was performed by Dell it should be associated with your service tag. You can send the Tag number if you send me a Private Message but do not post it here. Would you like me to request escalation of your complaint?

This would be the 4 time i send it for warranty. Every time it is overheating. Every single time. Whole cooling system was replaced 2 times, motherboard was replaced, DVD drive was replaced 4 times,(all of those was written on papers i got from service), once they even had to replace front cover of my laptop because paint was coming off from high temperatures. This is the worst laptop i have ever had. My warranty is valid until 4/18/2014 but the thing is, I DO NOT WANT TO SEND IT TO WARRANTY AGAIN! I hate this laptop! I'm 100% sure that if i will send it again it will start overheating AGAIN after week or two after it comes back. I do not know if Dell is really repairing my laptop or are they just messing with me. I hate this model and because of that I'm starting to hate Dell in whole... I just want laptop that will work after warranty ends...

Hiya Hoov!

Now that I'm thinking about it thanks in part to your post...I don't recall if the N5110 is vented OUT the bottom From the side or if it's a typical draw from bottom vent to side cooler. If it's a Vent to Bottom configuration, putting the unit on a cooling pad that pushes air up through the bottom will unwittingly cause the machine to overheat. That's definately something Dilos should be able to catch now that it's been brought up.

Hey Dilos, can you check that out and let us know. That might be real important info to have esp. since you mention occasionally using a cooling pad / fan. If the machine DOES vent out the bottom try placing the laptop on a hard flat surface, like a table or a lapdesk with a hard resting surface. Operate for a while as you watch the temperature and if it stays in normal operating range then that may be all there was to it. Let us know what you turn up.

Hi Dilos,

I've sent a request to Dell Product and Support for review. They now have the information you provided in this thread, your service tag number (received in email) and warranty status. They'll be able to take it from here. Good Luck!

I hope you don't mind if I ask you a couple questions. They do not have anything to do with the warranty issue, but might help fix the issue you are having.

Where are you using the computer when it overheats? What is the laptop setting on? Is there anytime that you can use the laptop and it does not overheat?

I use my laptop only in my home only on my desk. I'm not moving it at all. My desk is always clean (no debris or dirt on it, i clean it every day in fear that dirt is causing this problem...). Even running windows with no background programs is causing it to have ~70*C. Playing games or using anything that uses more processing power makes my laptop shutdown. If i try to for example dig dogecoins i have around 4-5mins of run time before it shuts down (4-5mins only when i put my laptop on cooling pad and turn it to max cooling settings... if without cooling pad it will shut down after 2-3mins tops.) By what is the laptop setting on You mean powerplan?

It got a fan that is almost bursting flames on upper right side of laptop. Yes, I'm keeping my laptop on cooling pad but i only turn it on when my hand starts to hurt or when my FPS in-game are dropping dramatically. Lately it starts overheating so much that even cooling pad does not help.

There is ONE more thing. Tell me what processor you have and then please read the label on your charger and identify it by it's PA-xx Family number it will read something like "PA-44 Family"

When I asked about what it was setting on, I meant the surface. But sitting on a desk should allow good airflow.

When the computer is on, can you hear the fan running?
