Dell - Reset SD Card Reader Problem

I went through the tutorials on this website and couldn't come up with a solution. If anyone can help
me out with this problem that would be great.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop running perfectly EXCEPT for the SD storage device reader.

The Secure Digital Host Controller is installed with no problem but when I insert a card into the reader
and it makes the noise sound nothing comes up, I checked the device manager and when I insert
the card I get this :

- Disk Drives
   - SAMSUNG MP0603H
   - ! Secure Digital Storage Device

When I take out the card the hard drive is alone without the SDSD beside it.

I installed the ricoh drivers in the proper order, uninstalled, man I've tried it all. I'm running Windows XP SP 2.

If anyone can help me that would be greatly appreciated!

you SD card reader does not require any drivers apart from the one included in xp sp2 in order to work.

this leads me to the question on where you got your ricoh drivers from and what do you see in device manager?

Have you ever considered that the SD card itself is bad or inserted improperly? Try a diff sd card and make sure the notch is away from you, closer to the back of the computer. It's perfectly normal for just the hard drive to be listed under Drives without the sd reader when there is no card inserted. My I6000 has no Ricoh drivers for the reader or anything else. All drivers for I6000 listed here: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=INS_PNT_6000&os=WW1&osl=EN

I have the right host controller and I have tried multiple cards but nothing is working still.
The SDSD host controller is active and working its only when I insert an SD card that
a new service will appear beside hte hard drive saying that another Secure Digital Device
is not properly working, maybe I need to send my laptop in to get checked out.

Also another question, can I upgrade the hard drive on this 6000 inspiron, if so, any suggestions
for a good one around $100-$200

Don't know what to do , Don't even think sending it back would help any So I'll wait for
more responses before I send the laptop back.

ideally it should look like this without any exclaimation marks

When the SD card isn't inside they have the SD Standard Compliant SD Host controller (he working properly) and when I insert my SD card they have a secure digital storage device added in the disk drives and they have the exclaimation marks on it. That said ''This device cannot start. (Code 10)'' and again they don't have problem whit the whit the SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controlle

I called the dell technical support, and he said that probaly because after I formated my computer I didn't install th ''Dell notebook system software'' so I formated my computer again and install the ''Dell notebook system software'' in first and the'' Intel mobile chipset '' in second but I have the same problem

P.S. sorry I'am a francophone and I hope what I said make sens.......................I try !!

Bacillus, it DOES look like that, but if you expand "Disk Drives" when an SD card is in, the rest of us see an additional drive "Secure Digital Storage Device" with an exclamation point. Couble-clicking the device yields this message:

[This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.]

"Troubleshoot" does nothing. I mean, it doesn't even blink.

I tried disabling that and hoping the SD Host Controller would "take control" but nothin' doin'...

HAS ANYONE GOTTEN TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS? (other than by buying a Mac...)

I'm having the same problem in my Inspiron 6000. Is DELL taking care of this problem?.

My husband and I are having the same problem on BOTH our I6000's.  I would love for this to actually work but it seems with so many problems it is a Dell issue and they aren't trying to fix it so it seems.

This is also what the device manager shows:

Hey, I just found this on Microsoft's support site.  Take a gander...  I just sent a request for further info and will update if I get anything useful (and perhaps if not, too...)

That is exactly what I've been seeing. My Kingston SD/512 card does the same thing. I went into services and turne all the SD Card related services on. Still no help. Went to the Microsoft website and this link says they have a patch. Unfortunately, after contacting the support section, they said the patch only works for XP and 2000. I have XP SP1 MCE. They would not give me that. anyone else want to try?
