Dell studio XPS CPU upgrade
Hello,
I have Dell Studio XPS 1640. I'm not very good at computer upgrading and thought that you can't upgrade CPU for laptop. But I've read recently in some forum that it is possible in some cases and now I wonder if it would be possible for my Dell.
I like playing games but my laptop can't handle heavier new games so I was thinking about start saving for desktop pc with Intel I7 or something. But maybe it would be enough if I would be able to change my current CPU on laptop.
My processor is: Intel core 2 Duo CPU p8700 2.53GHz 2.53GHz. I don't know which of those numbers are important so I wrote them all.
So my question is if I would be able to change CPU for this model and if I would what CPU would be best for gaming and studding/working?

You may be able to install a faster Core 2 Duo CPU, but the Core i series (i3/i5/i7) is a totally different design - you can't use any of these in your current system.
All of these are now four generations out of date - making any upgrade you can do, not worth the time, effort or cost.

The laptop cannot handle newer heavier games mostly because of the graphics card which is built in the motherboard and not upgradeable. As ejn63 mentioned upgrading the CPU is not cost effective for the amount of extra power you are going to get - and you still will not be able to play heavier games.

Thank you guys for your help. I guess then I will have to keep on saving for desktop pc
