Dell Vostro 1014

We have a dell vostro 1014 laptop that the screen went black. Had a tech replace the lcd screen and it works fine in safe mode but when windows 7 starts it shows logo then goes black. If you hook it up to external monitor it works fine. Have tried to reformat the drive with fresh install of windows 7 and the problem is still there. Any ideas?

Hi,

It appears to be an issue with the motherboard of your computer. You can run a test on the LCD of your computer to isolate the point of failure. You can watch the detailed steps and how to run LCD BIST from link: http://dell.to/R6XKBV .

If the test passes, you can update the video drivers for your computer from the link: http://dell.to/U00QWF

Steps to download drivers:

  • Enter the Service Tag of your system and select the operating system.
  • You will find the video driver under “Video”.
  • Click on the video driver depending on the video card your system has. (Install the same video driver which you uninstalled from “Device Manager”.
  • Click on “Download File”.
  • Select “For Single File Download via Browser”.
  • Click on “Download Now”.
  • Save the driver on your desktop.
  • Once the driver is saved on desktop, right click on it and select “Run as administrator”.
  • Install the video driver by following the on screen instructions.

Please reply with the findings.

I have already tried both of these and it passed the bist test and tried several different drivers to resolve the issue. So it sounds like the motherboard has a issue then. Thank you for the reply

Hi,

My apologies for delayed response. If the LCD BIST passes, it appears to be an issue with motherboard.
