dell vostro 1500 lcd display problem

Hi I hope someone can help me or at least point me in the right direction,

I have a dell vostro 1500 and the lcd only displays colours as if cycling through red green blue and greyscale, however if i connect it to an external video it works fine. It has the nvidea 8600m gt graphics card, and I have already eliminated it by replacing with another, only to show the same fault. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

Eddie

You can try replacing the ribbon cable that runs between the display and mainboard but it sounds more likely the electronics board in the panel is faulty - if so, it may or may not be repairable short of replacing the display panel.

While it's likely it means the display panel is bad, you may want to have a shop check it before buying a panel - there is a chance, smaller than that it's the panel, that the mainboard could be at fault.

Thanks for your speedy reply, I have just finnished replacing the ribbon cable from the mainboard to the lcd with no change... the colours are still scrolling as if in a test mode. The backlight and all colours are there, only no video, just a good picture on an external monitor.
