dell vostro v13 shuts down when unplugged?

This might be an issue with the motherboard as you have already changed the battery. Please let me know the answers to the following so that I can help you in a better way.

1. Is the battery charging when the adapter is plugged in.
2. Did you purchase the new battery through Dell?

I have the similar problem with my dell vostro v13. Not only cannot it be detected by the computer but it also cannot be charged.

May be I need to update driver or what ? Help, please!

Hi Nirinato,

If the battery is not detected, it may be an issue with the battery or the motherboard where the battery connects. There are a few things I would need to clarify regarding the issue.

1. Does the system power on without the adapter?
2. Do you see any battery icon on the taskbar?
3. Do you get any error message regarding the battery?

If you get any error message that the battery is not recognised, power off the system, take out the battery and the AC adapter, press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds to drain the static, insert the battery and AC adapter and then restart the system. Check the battery status after restart.

This issue may also occur if the system BIOS is not updated, so you can try installing the latest BIOS from the link below.

I would also like you to check if the AC adapter is being recognized in the system BIOS. Please follow the steps below to check the BIOS:

1. Restart the system and tap the F2 key on the dell logo.
2. On the main page of the system BIOS, look for AC adapter type and see if it is listed there.

If the AC adapter is listed in the BIOS, exit the BIOS and boot up to Windows. Check on the taskbar for the battery icon, if the icon is present, right click on the icon and open the battery health meter and keep me updated on the battery health.

Also, try to check the system with any alternate battery if you have one.

I also unplugged the battery and did start up only on ac power

and yes in BIOS ac power adapter was recognized

I apologize for the miscommunication regarding the system model. As the system battery has less than 10% charge you wont be able to update the BIOS. As the battery is getting recognised and it is plugged in and charging it seems to be an issue with the battery and not the adapter or the systemboard. It is recommended by Dell only to use original Dell batteries that are compatible with the system model. As you are using a battery from a different manufacturer it can cause issues.

the battery start charging about 1% a day, now up to 7%? what next?

I would recommend you to wait for a couple of days and check if the battery is charged up to 10% , once the battery has 10% charge try to download and flash the BIOS from the link below.

Before flashing the BIOS please check the following:

• Battery should have 10% charge
• Adapter should be connected
• No external devices should be connected.
• All other programs should be closed and documents saved

If the system BIOS is already updated to the latest version and still you are facing the issue. It seems to be an issue with the battery as the AC adapter is getting detected and it is trying to charge the battery.

I would recommend you to get a battery through Dell which would be suitable for this system.

comp still charging about 1% a day now 12% ,  but also shuts off when unplugged.....??

This may happen is the adapter is trying to charge the battery but the system is not recognizing the battery. That is why the battery charge increases by 1% everyday, but you are not able to run the system on the battery alone. This way even if the battery shows 100% charge you wont be able to use the laptop on the battery. If you always keep the laptop plugged in I will advise you to take out the battery and use it only with the AC adapter, till the time you replace it with a original Dell battery.

Please do not use this battery any more as it may also corrupt the system board of the system on which it is connected.
