Dell XPS 12 - Windows Display Button not working

Hello,

I have a Dell XPS 12 and since yesterday my Windows Button (the one on the display) isn´t working any more. The normal Windows Buttons on the Keyboard still work (which is useless when in tablet mode).

Any idea how to fix this?

Could it be that the Windows 8 Update Feature removed my Display Driver? Because under system settings it is only recognized as a Standard PNP-Display

probably after a reboot?

the windows button on the display only seems to work, when the display is turned into "laptop mode"

as soon as you turn around the display for "tablet mode"  keyboard AND windows button on display become inactive.....

which makes me wonder about the sense for the windows button on the display.....

I had this same issue and managed to sort it by installing the intel 4400 video drivers from the Dell website, I suspect the problem started after installing the latest video drivers from the intel site.  after a reboot all is well again with my hardware windows button!

This actually has fixed the issue I was having with the volume buttons on the side of the laptop which now also work again!

I had thes ame problem several times and found a solution!

Prob :Windows Display Button and USB 3 Power Port did not work or recognize attached devices.

The problem is a little bit weird because there seems to be a toggle, but it is reproducable.

The problem appears after using the xps in tablet mode and shut it down by using the power switch.
After some hours, if I change the XPS into laptop mode (opening the lid and turning the display) while it remains powered off.
After using the power switch to turn it on, the display sometimes stays off, although the keyboard is illuminated and I hear the cooling fan.
When this happens and I use the power switch to turn the machine, the problem appears (or disappears, depending on the state of the problem, If the USB and display switch worked or not)

In my case the problem dissappeared after I had the same conditions for power off and power on and changing the Usage mode of the XPS as described below.

I was able to get rid of the problem y shutting the XPS down as followed:

- Bring up the Windows 8 Charm (swipe from right edge of screen or using WINDOWS + I)

- Tap on Settings

- Tap on ON/OFF

- Hold the SHIFT-Key and tap or click on Restart or Shutdown

This really shuts down the machine. I've learned that using the options without SHIFT-Key brings the machine in a "semi-shutdown-mode" where it is not really powered off fully.

Hope this helps.
