Kindly let me know the system model and Operating system installed on the computer so that I can help you better.

Follow below steps to check the status of touchpad in safe mode:

1. If you're not signed in to Windows, tap or click the power icon from the sign-in screen, hold Shift, and then tap or click Restart.
2. On Recovery Mode screen click on “advanced repair option”.
3. You will need to click on the Troubleshoot option.
4. Select Advanced Options.
5. Now choose the Windows Startup Settings option.
6. Finally hit the Restart button.

Now the computer reboots into safe mode.

Use the computer in safe mode and check if the issue persists.

Also, install the touch pad drivers in normal mode. Follow below steps to install the touchpad drivers:

• Visit the following website: www.support.dell.com
• Enter the Service tag of the computer in the box provided and click “Submit”.
• In the next page, click drop down arrow to select the Operating System which is installed in the computer.
• Under category Input, click the touchpad file, “Download File” and save the file on desktop.
• Double click the file and follow the onscreen instructions.

Also, install Touch freeze .This Utility disables touchpad automatically while you are typing text.

From the above link, click on Downloads sections, save the file and run the file.

Some touchpads are so sensitive that you don't need to actually touch them when typing, just come close.

Although some pad drivers have adustments for this, the easiest answer is to install TouchFreeze. This free utility disables the pad when you begin typing and turns it back on when you stop.
