Disable WiFi button

ok so I still have that stupid Dell Inspiron M501R Notebook, and instead of having to press the function key (FN) to use the functions keys (WiFi, screen select, battery info, brightness up/down, volume and media controls) you have to press FN to use the f1-f12 keys. Which if you ask me, is just a  terrible design flaw.

I'd either like to be able to switch what keys the FN key activates, or disable the WiFi button as i often hit it trying to switch weapons in an online game, and i often get disconnected (which has a negative affect on my account) and have to restart the entire game. Its just terrible, is there ANYTHING i can do?

I was assisted my a customer service agent, they resolved this issue for me. I'm not exactly sure everything she did, but, she cahnged the settings by downloading a tool set called quickset  for the mobility center. she did something on her side (we were using a screen viewing application) with the keyboard. and now the key no longer functions as the wifi key, it is only the f2 key now.

If anyone else has this issue, i suggest using the support offered on the dell website.

Travailius,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

There is nothing you can do to change how the wifi is turned on/off. Only other option is to connect to the RJ45 with a cable. I know thats not what you want to hear but, its the only other option.

the hotkeys aren't f1-f12 they are 1-6

I think maybe I'll just break the stupid key off >.>

I tried using a program call antsoft, to block the key, but it is something beyond the keyboard, there must be something in the registry i can delete to break the key or something. there HAS to be a way this is the most inconvenient annoying thing about this already poorly designed laptop.

I mean the usb port is next to the power cord, the mic is right in between the speakers, they functions keys are there to just be randomly pressed. The very act of opening the screen causes stress in the LCD screen causing several stuck pixels. It doesn't indicate whether or not the cord is plugged in. I mean, had i known any of this before i bought i'd not be using it right now. I woulda went with this other computer i was really looking forward too.

I'm just incredibly disappointed by this computer :(

there HAS GOT TO BE SOMETHING that i can do.

if I didn't need to use my f2 key for stuff i'd just break it off.
