Display doesn't resume from standby

Hi I have Dell Inspiron 1100, it goes into standby mode fine, but on revival the display doesn't resume. I presume that the computer as such is out of hybernation mode, because if I blindly use the keyboard keys to shut down, it shuts down fine...or try some other thing like playing music (with lots of effort though) it does it fine, but there is no display as such.

Im not sure how the layout of the 1100 is but if you can find the small switch that activates the screen (should be right under the hinge at the back) or try closing and reopening the lid it should recover. Also setting your laptop to not standby when closing the lid would be a good idea (you can use fn+1 to do it manually)
