DVD-CD Failure
I have an Inspiron 1501 with XP. I recently uninstalled all Roxio programs from the system. Now the computer wil not recognize the DVD-CD at all. System restore will not restore to pre-uninstall of Roxio. I am not even sure that the uninstall has anything to do with failure to recognize DVD-CD. Any suggestions?

I haven't seen this problems in a while. It sounds like the upper and lower filters in your registry are messed up.
Microsoft has the information on how to fix this

Installing a firmware update is not necessary to fix the issue. Roxio CD/DVD software is known for this issue. That is why Microsoft created a FixIt program to fix the registry.

Try installing these drivers from the link below:

Restart your computer after the install to see if it has solved your problem

The Microsoft Fixit, took care of the problem. Thank you one and all for your help and suggestions. You are a life saver, I was in panic mode.
