E1505 with 4 vertical lines

Bought used E1505, 1.6 Ghz,60 gig HD, 512 Ram.   After receiving the laptop and turned it on I noticed 4 vertical lines (towards the left side of screen) with different colors.    I plugged in an external monitor and was going thru startup  with the wiindows logo and it then goes Blank, nada zero.    I can boot up completely with the laptop lcd but not the external monitor.    Is it the LCD screen, the inverter or the motherboard?    It is out of warranty.
