e6400 hardware manual
I just got a e6400 laptop and like all new computer didn't come with any manuals. So I went to dell.com but the only manuals I can find are how to use Windows. I want a manual / guide that expains all the features, buttons, keys, etc of the LAPTOP hardware. Like how to turn on the keyboard backlight (was able to guess it). I shouldn't have to guess what things do.
Can someone point me to this guide.
Thank you

Thanks for the quick reply.

Those manual show me how to send an email and shutdown my comptuer. DELL ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I just spent $2500 on my laptop and you can not provide a guide to all the HARDWARE features!!!! I'll call microsoft if I need to figure out windows *BUT* you have to tell me about the hardware.
WHAT A JOKE!

Except for the service manual, it appears that Dell is using a more generic style these days. The guide found here has most of the things you are asking about: Dell Technology Guide. What else is available is here: E6400 Manuals <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>.

There is a section that DOES describe keyboard backlighting. As for the LEDs, they're in the diagram in the shorter of the two manuals.
The socket behind the battery is for a SIM card, used with a subscription to an AT&T Wireless internet account and an AT&T WWAN card (in the US, that is - the other two carriers Dell supports - Verizon and Sprint - use WWAN but no SIM).

So those manuals "Have everything about the hardware AND software."?!??!
Please show me where to talks about the back lighting for the keyboard. Or what the different device led lights mean. Or what the card behind the battery is used for? How the webcam or ambient light detector works?
I can list you a BOOK of things NOT addressed. DELL GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!

LED are not cover except there are LEDs. I would like an actual explaination, blicking vs solid, etc. I just checked HPand Lenovo, they provide this info with thier hardware, why is dell getting lazy. Also I appreciate the info about the ATT Wireless **BUT** back to my point ITS NOT DOCUMENTED!!!!!!!!!!!
I own multiple Dell computers and this is the first one with POOR documentation.

My husband retired and brought home his Latitude 6400. He does not have a docking station. We hooked up an external monitor and he's using a wireless keyboard and mouse. Is there a way to use a keyboard action in order to bring the laptop out of sleep or hibernate .... without having to open the laptop?

In Windows 7, go into control panel, power options. You can then change if you want the unit to go to sleep, close the lid if you want, or open it without hibernating or going to sleep. If he is retired like myself, you will probably be using a plug in wall wart, instead of being on the road using battery power.
