E6420 unable to enter system setup

I'm on the latest A15 BIOS. The laptop is only a few weeks old and I've never needed setup before, but there's no F2 prompt at startup, and pressing F2 (including holding it down, repeatedly pressing, or just pressing once) has no effect. Startup always proceeds first to the storage boot screen, then OS startup.

How can I enter setup? Is there a different hotkey on this BIOS? There's an F12 message about boot options, and Ctrl-I on the storage screen, but doesn't seem like any way in to the setup.

One thought: The laptop is supplied by my employer. Is there any way they could have locked out access to setup before giving it to me?

Thanks,

Ian

Hi Ian,

I have provided 2 methods which would help you boot into setup.

Method1:

Press to enter System Setup and make changes to the user-definable settings. If you have trouble entering System Setup using this key, press when the keyboard LEDs first flash.

Method2:

Press when the Dell™ logo appears to initiate a one-time boot menu with a list of the valid boot devices for the system.  Diagnostics and  Enter Setup options are also included in this menu. The devices listed on the boot menu depend on the bootable devices in the system.

Now select BIOS setup.

Please reply if you have any further questions.
