Error Accessing The Lcd Inverter

I have a Latitude 5160 and the display is dark (not off though just 2 dark)
changing brightness in the bios does nothing

Running dell diagnostics reports

Error Accessing The Lcd Inverter

I have fitted the pannel to a d600 and the pannel and inverter is fine and reports back fine from the dell diagnostic

I fitted the d600 pannel to the 5160 and the dell diagnostics said
Error Accessing The Lcd inverter

does anyone have any idea's what the problem is?

The panel is not ocmpatible with the 5160. Screens are generally not interchangeable between models, least often as in this case where the 600m was made by a different manufacturer from the 5160.

shonk, err.. it didnt say anything was wrong with the inverter.. it said it couldnt access the inverter. So..whats between the inverter and the test program.. just the motherboard yes? so prolly a dead component on the mobo.

Unlikely, though if you have to buy a part, the video card is $100 or so, vs. 4-5X that for a mainboard.

Does the video display properly on an external monitor? If so, it's OK.

The graphics card is compleatly ignorant of the display device used, it only detects it through the same connection type as external monitors. You will notice that any backlight settings and lcd sleep functions are handeled by the power options panel and never the display panel.
