Error Code 3600:0852 - PRIMARY BATTERY PERMANENT FAILURE (Dell Studio 1735)
Hopefully someone can answer this one for me... :emotion-18:
About a week ago, I turned on my laptop, and I was able to get all the way through into Windows before I had any problems. Once in Windows, I got a pop-up message that said that I needed to replace my battery. Thinking it was a "mistake", I restarted the laptop. This time, before I could get to the Windows login screen, I got a black screen that said the system could not recognize the battery, so the system could not charge the battery (or something along those lines). I had the option of either continuing (F1) or running a diagnostic (F5). I ran the diagnostic, and that's when I got the following error code: 3600:0852 PRIMARY BATTERY permanent failure.
Thinking that that was pretty self-explanatory, I went ahead and ordered a new battery online, thinking that would solve the problem. (Yes, I made sure to order the right type of battery!) Unfortunately, when I received the new battery, I swapped them out, but nothing changed! I still have the same problems! That little red flashing light is still there, I still get the black screen before I can get to the Windows login screen (the one that tells me that the battery cannot be recognized), and the new battery does not charge.
The laptop will work as long as it's plugged in, but as soon as it's unplugged, it shuts off.
I don't want to spend any more money on new parts before I know what's wrong. WHAT'S GOING ON?!?!?! SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME SOME INSIGHT! :emotion-9:

Check the contacts on the mainboard to make sure they're in good shape (i.e., where the battery plugs in) . If they're not, the mainboard will need to be replaced -- and even if they do look OK, it sounds like you've a faulty system board.

...it sounds like you've a faulty system board.
What exactly does that mean, and is that type of thing expensive? (Sorry, my computer knowledge is limited...)

It means there's a problem with the main system board, and yes, it's an expensive part to replace (on the order of $300, with another $100 or so in labor).

I dont think that the problem is an easy solution . My battery is charging up to 100% but runs down quickly .The new battery shows error code 3600 0852
On reboot it shows battery not reconised.

I doubt it is the system board. The old/original battery (dell oem) charges but once the laptop is unplugged it can only go about 20 minutes. A new replacement battery now gives a permanent failure and the battery light on the front flashes from blue to orange.
Permanent failure. Error code: 3600:0852
Per diagnostics "Battery cannot be identified. The system will be unable to charge this battery".
This is obviously a ploy to get you to buy a $100 replacement battery from dell only. But for $15 I haven't lost much. Still stinks. Who's going to spend more than that on an old Vostro 1720? Even though it runs like a top and is faster than an 8 year old Inspiron 9300.
