ERROR Message HELP!!
Im new to this posting so not sure if im in the right forum to post. I have a Inspiron 3700 laptop I keep getting the error message registry cannot load hive file \systemroot\system32\config\software or it's log or alternate it is corrupt, absent or not writable. Problem is I got this laptop from someone it didnt come with the win 2000 cd so what are my options to fixing this so I can get back into this laptop. I do have another dell laptop Latitude running the same win 2000 pro on it but one had a disk drive and other one has a cd drive help!!!

This is usually indicative of a hard drive that has developed bad sectors and is failing. Run a manufacturer's diagnostic on the drive or use the blue and white Dell Diagnostics and Utilities CD that came with the system to verify the drive. Since it will likely fail the test, be prepared to replace the drive.

hard drive meaning i may need a whole new laptop? i dont even have the diagnostic n utilities cd I just brought this laptop from someone else is there a wabsite i can go to burn it to cd or disk?
