ESeries Laptops E6400 E6500 -
We are trying to load our Volume license Windows XP media onto a brand new E6400 which we will be ordering going forward. We are seeing all sorts of weird behavor with these machines.
The computer boots from the Windows XP Pro media, i select F6 to specify the Intel Matrix Driver, I get to the point to choose the partition to install windows onto, it formats this space. After the formatting when it begins to install windows, it pops up again saying “Insert the disk labeling Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver into Drive A:”. From here i cant get past this screen, nothing seems to work.
Dells simple response is to change the option from IRRT to ATA in the bios for the hard drive. There has to be a real response and hoping others have seen this issue. Please help.

Did anyone ever find the proper, Dell recomended, way of doing this? I too am thinking about getting many e6500's and using my Volume License Windows XP media, but I can't get it to work with the first test PC.
I tried using nlite to insert the drivers into my Volume License Windows XP CD. It seemed to work, but after I ran sysprep and tried to install from it, files were missing ( like c_20127.nls ).
Does anyone have complete instructions on how this should be done?
You would think Dell would be able to tell me how to do this, but the support people act like they have never dealt with a large company that uses Volume License Windows XP. "change the option from IRRT to ATA in the bios for the hard drive." is not a good answer. How do you then change it back from ATA to IRRT after Windows is installed? If you do that, it won't boot.
Like the person said above, please help! Thanks in advance.

I tried changing the Bios setting to normal ATA, installing the Intel drivers and then changing it back. When it comes back up it crashes with a quick blue screen and reboots almost instantly, like Windows is still expecting the ATA drive and does not know it needs to use that IRRT driver I just loaded . It must something I am doing wrong. Thanks.
