"Exception unknown" error message when turning off "Studio 1537" laptop

I've had various ongoing problems/issues with this thing since I purchased it (new) a few months ago. The start/restart problems have become so time consuming to address that I have started a file in order to document all of the issues. Anyhow, since I first got this thing, there has been an "unknown" error message that briefly appears during shutdown or restart.

"The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000005) occurred in the application at location "0x7696e16".

Occasionally this message will show location "0x7568" instead.

Does anyone have an explanation for this?

On 11.05.09 I had a nice 3 or 4 hour talk with Dell tech help (mostly on the start/restart problems), the 2 times that I enquired about this error message, I was politely diverted to another topic.
