Fan and lag problems

Question

My laptop is an Inspiron 8600 and has Windows XP. When I first got my laptop, my fan was really quiet and never got loud, after a year that changed. I don't know if this is related, but after changing my processor from 1400 MHz to 1500 MHz, my fan got loud. Not only is my fan loud, but it gets loud only when I open some big programs. Internet Explorer doesn't trigger it, but things like iTunes and some games do. After the fan gets loud, my laptop lags really bad. Can anyone help me with this problem please? Thank you.

If by changing you mean overclocking, stop doing that.Laptops aren't ment to be overclocked.Also the lag is most likely related to overheating as if it gets too hot the processor automatically slows down.Also try to clean the heatsink and fan as this should be don on regular bases in a portable system.Keep me posted!

By changing I mean as taking the processor out and putting in a new one. They should be clean, because when I changed the processor I cleaned everything.

The fan is fine now, weird, I just did a virus scan and after that it was fine. Could a virus mess with the fan and overheat stuff?

A virus can basically do anything.But, most likely can keep your processor busy wich means more heat wich in turn means higher fan speed.

I have the same problem with the Inspiron 9300. Every time the fan turn on and starts making noise everything gets laggy
