Faulty Lid Switch Studio 1735
My wife's laptop screen keeps flicking off due to it thinking the lid is closed. Placing a magnet around the lid closed detection area sometimes brings it back to life, but tonight it wouldn't do it. How easy is it to fix this sort of problem? From what I've seen disassembling the laptop isn't straightforward (it takes alot of steps to get the front bezel off). I'm not even sure if I got down to it that it would be repairable (does it use a magnetic switch or a chip to detect the magnetism?). I'm guessing getting it repaired through Dell wouldn't be cheap?

As a followup to this, I tried calling the Dell support centre but they didn't seem to understand the problem, two solutions given to me - try reinstalling the operating system or we'll send an engineer out for £100.
From what I've read of the inspiron models, they all use reed switches for detecting the lid is closed, one person fixed the issue by removing the reed switch altogether. Simple solution if this is how the Dell Studio models are setup, but not if they have a Hall effect sensor, so does anyone know?
