Fingerprint Reader - How to Disable

I have a new Latitude E6440.  The fingerprint reader is not working.  When I log on it takes forever for it to decide that the "biometric authentication service" is not working.  It then asks me if I want to log on without it, using my password.  When I log on with the password everything proceeds normally.

Since I do not want to use the fingerprint reader - and prefer my password - can anyone tell me how to disable the biometric thingy?  I seem to remember that it has to be done in the bios...

Please give me step-by-step instructions - or point me to a website that provides the disabling procedure.
