function keys not working in new xp install

Question

I'm using an inspiron b130.  I just reinstalled windows XP, I got everything working except for the blue function keys on the keyboard which do not seem to work at all.  The number pad keys work, but none of the others (e.g. sound, cd drive eject, etc.) work at all.   When I go to 'Add Hardware' I see that there is still one thing not installed: 'PCI Device.'  That's a pretty generic name, but I'm guessing it's related to the keyboard function keys since those are the only things not working.  I try to install it, but the hardware wizard can't find any drivers on the internet.   I looked in the driver download section and I can't find anything that relates to the keyboard or the function keys.  Did I miss something?

No, I didn't. I didn't receive a driver cd or anything when the laptop was shipped to me, so I don't have any notebook system software. Is it downloadable from the website?

After you reinstalled WIndows did you install the chipset driver and notebook system software?  Those two should have been added first, right after installing Windows.

Yes, right here: B130 Drivers   You can find the notebook system software under System Configuration Utilities.

I installed both of those things, but it hasn't made any difference.  Any other ideas?   I'm also getting a message that my ethernet card's radio is turned off, which is a new one on me.  There doesn't seem to be any switch or anything for that....?

The other key component is the chipset driver.  Are you certain that you installed it?

i have inspirion e1705 and for the functions key to work i have to install Dell Quickset application.

i have checked the b130 application that you can download from dell drivers site and there is an application Dell Quickset please download this and install it. after try the functions key again.

Yes, I installed the chipset drivers but it did not help with the function keys.  The QuickSet thing was what I wanted, so it's working now, hooray!  Thanks to all of you for your help!   For the sake of completeness, the mysterious 'PCI Device' turned out to be the sound card, I downloaded the driver for that and it's working now too.
