Get keyboard backlit for Latitude E5400

Does anyone know how to get the backlit keyboard to work for E5400. I've bought the backlit keyboard and install it along with the newest DCP but there were no option for backlit keyboard in DCP. Is there any special driver I need to install in order to get the backlight to work?

Hi,

There's no backlit option for E5400 unfortunately. I bought the part on Ebay but the backlit doesn't work for E5400, no driver I think. Sorry to crush your hope lol.

Hi theanh13,

I found your post here while searching the internet.  I have a Dell E5400 also and would like to replace the current keyboard with a backlit one but Dell cust. service tells me this part is not available for the E5400 system. Would you possibly remember the part number you ordered to get the backlit keyboard?

Thank you in advance

Thanks for the fast reply.  Sorry I didn't get back sooner but I've had a hell of a time trying to log back into these forums.  Had to re-create a new user name -long story.

Anyway, yes I've found out that there is not an option for backlit keyboard on E5400.  However in true Dell form I got different answers from different people at Dell.

The first person I reached at Dell spare parts said there is no option but, having been dealing with Dell for many years I knew to call back just in case.

The second person I reached at Dell said yes there is a backlit keyboard for this pc and he put me on hold to get a price and then I lost the connection and had to phone back.  Of course we all know what a thrill it is to call Dell and get to the correct dept.

So now I'm all excited that there seems to be a backlit keyboard option.

The third person I reached at Dell said she found the correct part and the cost as about $41 and asked me if I'd like her to send a quote via email.  I said sure that would be great.  I waited about 24 hours and no quote arrived.

The fourth person checked and didn't find any quote in the system and also said that the backlit keyboard is not an option.  Somewhere between the first and second person is when I got your response.

Oh well we tried.

Thanks again for the reply.

I don't think e5400 support keyboard backlight, the reson you can get keyboard whit backlight to this model is, that e5400 and e6400 use same keyboard, and e6400 support backlight.

I for one am amazed that there is no keybopard light on a laptop as standard (not too bothered about a fancy one)? this is a basic requirement of a laptop to be able to see your keyboard.-  fair enough you dont need your keys illuminating on a desktop but this means I can only use my new laptop / portable in daylight ?? RUBBISH !!!   Taking it back if possible.
