Hard disk failure is imminent..

Well as the subject says about this says, I've been getting the "hard disk failure is imminent" message every single time I turn my laptop on, I dunno how much time I've got left with my present drive so I went ahead and made some back-ups just in case.  So I was wondering on what I should do to fix my problem here, as I'm only 17 yrs old, I do not know much about troubleshooting my machine and help from the technical support team would be much appreciated.  And I'd also like to ask if the Dell warranty covers situations such as mine with the hard disk failure message.

BTW I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1564 64-bit and windows 7 OS, a quick reply from the team here would very much be helpful in what other steps I should take to deal with this kind of thing.  Thank you and good day.

PS: I don't know if I should be posting it here since it involves my hard disk and I saw a section for hard disks earlier, but I'm also using a laptop so yeh.

aight soo, first of all, how do I do that?

Secondly, what do I do when I get an answer from the test that I'm supposed to run?

BTW, thank you for replying.

If the system is under warranty, just call Dell with the error message and they'll ship a replacement drive.  If it's out of warranty, you will need to purchase a new 2.5" 9.5 mm SATA notebook drive to replace the dying unit.

There's no point wasting time with the diagnostics - if the SMART system is reporting a failure, replace the drive ASAP.
