Hard drive burned out???!!
My 5100 refused to boot up.
All i get is white on black menu with safe mode, last stable mode, normal mode etc.
All options result in blue screen.
Previously, today i've been hearing noise on the left side. I thought it was CD-rom, now I'm thinking it was the HD burning out.
please reply asap

the diagnostics tests seem to show that everything is perfect. In reality, it seems that the NTFS file system has gone down with all the data on the HD. so what is there left to do other than reformat and reinstall?
the question is: what could have caused such damage???

I thought warranties were a marketing scam because they always run out the day before catastrophic system failures. :smileyvery-happy:
anyway, now that i reinstalled windows, what do I do? Modem's not found, etc.
This sure isn't Toshiba's rescue disk.
I pity the fool who doesn't have a Comp. Sci. degree and has to reinstall everything from scratch.
