Help please! Blue Screen. Cannot load windows in safe mode etc
Hello
I've started windows and get a black screen, asking me if I want to start in safe or normal windows mode. No matter what I press I then get a blue screen, with a message etc and error 0x0000007B. I've tried to call tech support but nobody is there. I have found some info online but not enough to help me.
If you can advise on how to get windows up and running I would appreciate your help.
Thanks

just found info on a previous post and have followed their instructions which were:
F12 at powerup - boot to the Dell diagnostics and run a full hard drive test.
I'm currently running the hard drive tests...

I have a dell inspirion 6300 - its about 4 years old.
I do have a blue screen when I press either F2 or F12 for setup but there are just 2 main boxes with info etc.
when i originally started up without pressing F2 or F12 I get a black screen asking if i want to setup in the normal way or safe mode etc...no matter what I press it takes me to the next blue error screen.

Hey
The Blue Screen is becoming bery common.
Try this
1. Go into the bios F2 at the dell screen.
2. Then go to drive, hit enter
3. go to sata operations
4. Make sure if using XP set the sata operation to Raid auto detected / ATA (if vista raid auto detected /AHCI)
5. then try rebooting.

Thanks for your reply...I've got Windows ME and not XP - does that make a difference with what I have to do?
Also I cannot see "drive" or "sata".
When I go into the blue screen after pressing F2 I get a menu of : System:Onboard devices: video:security:power management: maintenance:post behaviour
I must be looking in the wrong place! if you have any further info I would be grateful to receive it.

If the hard drive is not seen by the BIOS, reseat it - slide it out and back in again. If it's then still not seen, it's toast - replace the drive.
Assuming this is an Inspiron 9300 (there is no 6300), you most likely have a parallel ATA drive - though some very late production models use the newer SATA drive type.

Same advice - if the BIOS doesn't see the drive, see above. Reseat the drive. If it's then still not found, replace it - any 2.5", 9.5 mm EIDE (NOT SATA) drive , 120 G or smaller can be used as a replacement.

Thanks againg for taking the time to reply but some of the information is way beyond me...."reaseat the drive"? i really dont know about the inside workings. I will see if Dell technical support can help me when they open tomorrow.
I did try the diagnostics test which was advised earlier and it all seemed ok...but it keeps asking me to run the CDHDISK or something like that...am I right in presuming this is a disk which I might have had with the PC and to put in the CD drive?
