Help Please!!
Okay, when I first power up my Inspiron 1150, the Dell screen flashes and then the screen goes dark. I thought it was completely black on me, but I can faintly see my log in screen and am able to log in. Then I can faintly see my Windows screen and it brings up my yahoo and msn messenger and connects to the internet just fine. It's so faint though, that I cannot see my mouse or cursor at all and have to do a hard shut down.
I did have it on my bed for a short while (20 minutes tops) then the next time I turned it on, this happened. Could I have really overheated something that quickly? Any ideas what is going on? It's like my contrast has been turned to extremely dark, but I can't adjust it back.
Please someone help me!!

I did try that yesterday to no avail. Today I will try to bring it up in safe mode and also try to get to the BIOS and restore settings. If those two things do not work for me, then I will look into getting the backlight replaced. Thank you!Polomint_04076b

70% of the cases, the problem is the inverter, which is inside the screen. I had the same problem and if you are still on guarantee, Dell changes the screen for free. But if your guarantee is ended, Dell will ask a lot of money as they change the whole screen, not a single piece. I was told to pay 1000€ !!! and they even take your old screen away, which is not too legal as you paid for it when you bought the laptop.
So i decided to buy the inverter at ebay, and opened the laptop following the instructions dell post at their technical assistance web site. It worked and the problem was fixed! The total price was 75€.

They sell pieces all over the world.
If you are scared about opening the laptop (just open it if your guarantee is ended, otherwise you´d lost it) then take the laptop to a lcd repairing shop, it will be a little more expensive but anyway cheaper than dell´s.

if it doesn't then it sounds like the lcd backlight needs replacing.
