What system do you have?  If your system has USB 1.1 built in, then you would need a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card to get maximum speed from your memory stick.

I got same problem like you, send and receive many email to technical support but not help. My dell latitude C840 build in with USB2, but  it had Inspiron 8200 bios, I upgraded to latitude C840 Ver A13. Before upgraded I connect with USB 2 external hard drive, work fine no problem. After upgraded bios, every time I connect to USB 2 external Hard drive, I got the message " Hi speed USB2 device connect to low speed USB port.....". I format hard drive reload new system and driver and still got the same problem. ( dell CD ). there are 99.99% pentium 4 system were built with USB2. HELP PLEASE.

Thank you for your reply to my post, I have a Dell Latitude 740, 512 Mb RAM running XP-Pro as the OS.

Is it a relatively simple operation to change the PCMCIA card?

A PCMCIA card fits into the slot on the side of your computer.  They are extremely easy to install.  In most cases you just need to put the driver CD into the drive, and put the card into the slot, and Windows should handle everything else.

The Latitude C series systems do not have USB 2.0.  You will get that message is you attach to the USB ports on your system.  A PCMCIA USB 2.0 card could also be a solution for you.

I'm having a similar problem with a new Sandisk Cruzer mini USB 128MB flash drive (hi-speed usb2.0). Sandisk had drivers that work for a w98se system. I have a Dell Latitude cpi series. After I install the drivers, it still doesn't see the usb drive. Any thoughts on this

I recently purchased a Sony 530 dvdrw. I too am having problems. I received the message about the usb not being high speed. I have a dell 2350 with xp home and according to the device manager a 2.0 enhanced usb controller. Since then I have continued to try to get the drive to work. If I try to put any media in the drive while the drive and computer are on, I get a blue shut down screen that says...

Problem detected in windows... windows has shut down...

I am a mainframe programmer by profession and I understand this means Windows abended.

Now if I put media in while the drive and computer is off I am able to read the drive once back on. Although, when I try to look at blank media, it says the drive is not accessible. I cannot attempt to insert a different media.

My usbstor.sys version is 7/1/01 5.1.2600.1106. I know there is a new version (5.1.2600.1317 11/03), but I am unable to locate it. I use the windows update automatically so all the windows service packs are installed along with all critical updates.

If I try to use the burning software I get the following error:

MYDVD could not complete the last command because:

Invalid requested time (DVDErr,-19004).

Of cousre I have contacted Sony about this and they suggested I get updated drivers from Windows and the computer's manufacturer.

Any ideas?

Have you also tried to update the chipset drivers for your Dell. This is what solved my problem and got my external harddisk to work on USB2.0.

I got the chipset update from the intel site http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/support_intel.asp

Here's an easy fix  to  identify your Intel chipset...

Intel® Chipset Identification Utility:

Once you  know the chipset ,  then go to following site to upgrade your chipset drivers:
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/support_intel.asp

click  on Chipsets in  left   column...then in new column click on ur computer in this case a notebook chipset...then in next column choose the chipset that the above Chipset Identification Utility link found for you
Now just follow the  onscreen instructions for download.
