I have the WSXGA Samsung and i have the problem... Wondering if all WSXGA screens have it or if its just the samsungs.

make sure you open it to 100% too. NOT ZOOMED... if its zoomed its useless

Also useless unless your screen is native to 1440x960 @60hz. Mine is a 15.4 inch laptop, WSXGA screen, 1680x1050 @60hz.

No not useless   Let me explain. Every second line on my display is 5% lighter than the others. Very noticable in greys and blues.   This picture has two sides. One side is horizontal grey lines spaced every second line. The other side is the same colour grey lines spaced every OTHER second line.   If your display exhibits the problem like mine, then one side of the test image will appear lighter than the other as the grey lines for that side are on the 5% lighter lines of the display. Moving the image around the screen changes which side has the grey lines on the 5% lighter lines of the display and so changes which side is lighter.   If yours doesn't have the problem, then obviously both sides will always look exactly the same.   Ross Message Edited by geometrikal on 08-06-200607:17 PM

Oh good!!!   So yours is WSXGA screen? What manufacturer :) :)  I have contacted dell and they are arranging a 2nd replacement and i want to know what is the best brand to ask for.   To find out go to dell.com, supprt and help, all support options, home and home office, product support more details, original system configuration, enter your service tag found on the bottom of the lappie, find the screen i.e. CF264   LCD,15.4WSXGA+,VESA,GWVA,SMSNG and post it back to me and i will be very grateful :smileyhappy:

Mine says: XD570 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.4WSXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., GLARE WIDE VIEWING ANGLE, LENGTH/LONG. Now the first part is just the dell part number and the spelled out acronym LCD. The second part is VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association). They don't actually make monitors. They are just an industry group that was established to make monitors use standards to be more friendly to consumers and what not in the early 90s. The third part is obviously the antiglare coating on TrueLife displays. The rest is meaningless jibberish. So it does not actually say who manufactured the display which is unfortunate...I would recommend giving 'XD570' to someone on dells telephone support and ask them to look up that part number. They'll be able to give you the manufacturer, etc... better than I can from just a part # alone. Good luck. Message Edited by Outvit on 08-09-200603:41 PM

Well, aren't I glad they decided to give me the good LG screen considering we have an identical laptop for the most part and checkmarked the same exact LCD screen option and yet we get one from different manufacturers. Thankfully they gave me the LG screen then. I don't get why the Samsung is bad though. Yours must just be a defective run on the assembly line. Samsung is one of the best names in LCDs and monitors in general. I guess at LG--Life's (really) Good.

Yah, awkward pun. But that's what LG stands for. :P

Got the LG screen. Heaps better. No lines. No dirty whites. Easier to look at. Not so washed out colours too.

I think I get the Samsung screen because I'm in Australia. I also found a big thread over at the apple site about the same problem on power books and it turned out that Samsung screens were the culprit again. They were replaced with a different batch of Samsung screens and problem solved.

Apparently you have to tune the lcd voltages etc to give the best image, so maybe quality control has gone south at the samsung factory. My first replacement screen was a samsung and it was bad so its definitely not a one off.

I tried this test and it seems my samsung lcd has this problem.
However, I don't notice any issues with the lcd other than this test image...and even then, I'm not sure it's applicable as my screen size is 1680x1050

Why does this mean that my screen is bad?
