Hot Key to disable TouchPad

I have a Studio 1749 and a new Inspiron 17R.

The 17R has a hot key to enable/disable the touch pad.  The Studio does not.

Is there a way for me to program one of the funtion keys (i.e., function key with Fn button depressed) to enable and disable the touchpad?

The Inspiron has a dedicated key (i.e., F13!).

Any help or thoughts out there.

Thanks

You should mention the operating system. If you have Dell Quickset on the 1749, that will have a turnoff setting for the Touchpad. You can also look in the Mouse settings in Control Panel on the 1749. That might have a setting there you can use.

This is a fairly old posting, but I just came across it, when I searched on how to enable the touchpad. The posting is unsolved so I thought I'd write my resolution.

My Inspiron N5010 has a key after the F12 key, with a touchpad symbol on it. This is a toggle key which enables or disables (I need to fix this issue occasionally, after my 4 year old is done playing on her preschool websites :emotion-2:
