how do I disable touchpad?

I have a inspiron 1000. Every time I type, my thumb touches the pad and the cursor jumps out of place. I have tried everything to disable the touchpad with no success.

Read the manuel, tried to uninstall the driver, I'm about ready to take it apart and unplug the touchpad.

If you go to the control panel and look at the Mouse settings, you can set it so that the touchpad becomes disabled when you start typing. If you don't have these settings, download the latest drivers for them from Dell.
