I8K: Fan
In the two-fan assmebly in the back of my I8000, things have gone south. For the first year, both fans worked fine. Then one fan broke. Since then I've been running on one fan, and this one's about to break. Where can I find this part? I took down the serial number from the fan (GM0503PEB1-8) but could not find it. I feel comfortable installing it myself. My warranty is long dead, and besides almost everything voids it anyway.

The fans in the I8000/I8100 are 0.6W, Dell part#068RU, and the fans used in the I8200, Dell part#6F858, are rated at only .3W. Does this mean the Pentium4-M puts out less heat than their PIII-M counterparts, I don't think so.
These fans won't last forever; they will get noisier and noisier with use and will eventually need to be replaced. I believe that the I8200 fans will last longer(not get noticeably noisier) due to the fact that they actually push less air(.3W compared to .6W).
If you're technically inclined, you should replace the fans regularly maybe every 6 months to a year. If you've been suffering with a noisy fan, do yourself and your co-workers a favor and replace the darn thing...
