In Production

I bought my M1530 on May 9th and the order status has not changed from being "In Production."  Will it change online when it goes to kitting, testing, boxing, etc.?  Or do I have to call to find out the real order status?

Well I finally emailed a guy and asked him what the deal was with the late ship date.  I don't know if it was a computer that answered the question or not because he/it really didn't answer the question.  But some good did come out of it.  I got him/it to "prioritize" my order and he/it upgraded me to next day shipping for free.

I ordered my XPS 1530 on 4/21, My delivery status still says "In Production" and estimated ship date is scheduled for tomorrow 5/21 , I called customer service, they said there's no way other than the automated system to get an update. It will go from "In Production" to "Shipped", there isn't any other stage i.e. Testing, Boxed etc... should I call back?  Did she give me a standard answer? I ordered online, so I don't have a sales rep to contact.

Did you call the order status line?  The number is 1-800-433-9014.  Its some machine that will ask you for your order number and then it will tell you the order status.  Online, my laptop says "in Production," but when I call it says that its still in "Pre-Production."  The Lowjack thing that came with my laptop is in the "in Production" phase online, but in the "Build" stage according to the phone machine.  You might as well give it a call and see what you can find out.

Thanks, I called that number and it says my computer is in "production" and is in the "build stage". Today is the ship date, I hope it manages to complete the other stages today. I haven't received an email saying it's delayed.

Lon,

Hope that you have better luck with your order than I am having with mine...  I ordered the XPS M1530 on May 7th and its ship date is still saying May 21, 2008.

Not sure how long mine has been in the build stage, as I just got the 800 number a few days ago.  But there are other stages after build that the system has to go through.  There is at least the testing stage, which used to take a day or so, then they have to package it, etc....

Hopes for mine actually shipping tomorrow I believe will be slim to none...

Good luck!

I ordered my 1530 on 4/30 and the estimated ship date is 5/30, I have emailed customer service 3 different times and got the same answer that the ship date is only an estimate and it may ship sooner.  I even asked for my order to priortized and shipping upgraded only to be told that no changes can be made to the order.  I did call the automated line yesterday and once today and it is in the boxing stage so hopefully it will ship soon.  4 weeks seems a little crazy to get it built and shipped.

Called the 800 line this morning still in the boxing stage, how long does the boxing stage usually take?  Hopefully it will change soon.

I have a question.  I ordered my laptop with the lowjack and a travel surge protector, so I have 2 order status numbers (1 for the laptop, 1 for the other 2). I called the automated order status line and when I give them each order status number individually, my laptop is in the build stage and the other is in pre production.  When I give them the 13 digit Dell Purchase ID, they give me the order status of both orders, but it says that they are both in pre production.  Does anyone know if it is in the pre production or in the build stage?  It has been in the build stage for a while, but is not moving.

My laptop can be in the build stage for a while...  If something for it is on backorder, it will still show in "build" status...   Not sure why the lojack and surge protector are still in "pre-order" status...  Perhaps one or the other of them are on backorder?

When I placed my order, I got the X-FI card (or whatever the thing is called).  That, a wireless USB thing and lojack were on a separate order...  My laptop is in "we're throwing it in the box" stage, but the X-FI card is on backorder, holding up the other order associated with the laptop.

I would just ask them point blank, "hey! what's the hold-up?"

Today, as of 6:00, I entered the "Testing" phase.  It only took 18 days to move one phase.  Hopefully, with any luck, my laptop should ship to me in the next day or two.  Hopefully I didn't jinx myself.
