INF file txtsetup error

Today I downloaded an  update from dell i believe it was a mouse pointer app. not sure it was a new dell update anyways after installing i now am having problems starting my computer i cant get windows to start it. even tried in safe mode but it wont start. i have inserted the windows xp disc to try to repair the problem..i hit the f12 key upon start up ..then select the cd device to boot from then hit a key..then i get a screen that says INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing. status 4  setup can not continue press any key to exit..does anybody have any ideas to over come this.? thanks

Have you tried tapping F8 at startup and at the DOS-like screen choose to startup in the last known good configuration?

yes i have tried that ..thank you...when i pick to start up in the recommended setting thing it goes to the dell logo for a moment then back again and the 30 sec countdown restarts it seems to loop this process til it locks with a blank black screen and i cant do anything..

well it began to just loop upon startup..so i have called dell tech support..working with them i have found out my hard drive is now corrupt..all this started after doing a download from dell support on my laptop some update for pointer or something..they are going to send me a new harddrive and i get to reinstall everything..but thanks for your help..
