Inspirion Notebook (Sleep mode???)

Can anyone tell me why my laptop (whether on battery or direct current) goes into sleep mode so fast?  I can be working on it and then step away for 2 mintues or so and BOOM it goes to sleep mode or something?  I haven't used the laptop in some time, now that I want to use it, this problem appears.

Is there a setting or something to tell the sys when it can go to sleep.  This is a real pain, it seems like it is difficult to get it to wake-up.  You hit various keys and try to get it to revive itself, but sometimes you just have to turn it off and then back on.  I know something isn't right.

Any suggestions?

Also, it seems like the battery doesn't fully charge.  My friend says the battery is starting to go, that I needed to let the battery run all the way down and then re-charge and since I didn't do this, it is probably a marginal battery?  Is that correct?

Thanks,

Bob

Have you checked the Power settings in your Control Panel?

for lith-ion batteries, every 30 or so charges, it's worth letting it discharge to the autoshutdown point for the computer. after the computer turns off, charge it fully.

this isn't great for the battery in general, but it will recalibrate the fuel gauge -- which if it's off, can cause the system to think the battery is low when it isn't/

You need to look in control panel> power options and set a power scheme that is suitable to yourself.

Concerning your battery, you do not want to deep discharge it then recharge it on a regular basis as that will tend to quickly reduce the lifespan of your Li-ion battery. Additionally, it sounds like your battery is on its way out if it will not charge 100%.

And 90% charge capacity is within the manufacurers limits.
If you dont get that, call in to the support. get a new one.
Remeber that your battery only has 1year warranty, the computer may have 5years, but that dont affect the battery.
