Inspiron 1150 dead

Hi!
I bought an Inspiron 1150 a month back and it was working fine till yesterday night when I switched it off for five minutes and couldn't switch it on after that. No light comes on after pushing the power button and I have tried the following steps without any success:
Tried starting it with or without power adapter. (The Adapter has the green light on and the battery was fully charged when it went dead)
I took out the battery and tried starting without it with AC power.
Any ideas what is wrong with the laptop and what should I do now.
Do I have to ship it to Dell? How long does it take to get it corrected as I am leaving the country in a month?

Call tech support and explain the problem.  If they determine it needs to be shipped in, turn around time i around a week ... sometimes a little longer

I have an Inspiron 1150 and have had no such problem, but without a doubt Dell's depot warranty is qualified to fix it as it sounds as its a malfunction. If you tried removing the battery then it may be something internal, my biggest recommendation to you is to call Dell and they will tech you.

Hi..

Mine just dropped dead today. Fan kicks on high, Power and batt. light flash like Pwr then batt back to pwr... Dell says MB... Wonder if they'll send out a temp notebook? Oh well. Thanks!

They don't send a temp notebook but their depot services are pretty efficient and if you ship them your laptop you will get it back within a week.

BTW looks like lot of Inspirons have a MB problem, maybe they should do a product recall.

Dell has had to replace my system board twice on our 1150. It is either a lemon, I don't think so because others are experiencing the same problem or Dell just has a bad product here. We use the computer very little so for it to fail twice in six months is really disappointing. I thought when we purchased this computer we were buying the best in this price range, even Consumer Reports gave it a very good review. I'm really worried that when the warranty expires then I'll be in real trouble with this computer. The other thing that I don't like is each time the computer was returned all I got back was a photocopied form with"System Board replaced" checked. I wrote a very detailed  letter describing the problem and requesting an exchange, upgrade or explanation as to why my computer will be more reliable now. All they sent me was "System Board Replaced" If the moderator can reply I'd appreciate knowing why there is such a high failure rate on this computer, what has been or is going to be done by Dell to improve the reliability of this computer and what happens if this computer continues to require new system boards after the warranty expires? How much will a new system board cost to be replaced out of warranty? If you, the moderator, just reply check with service or support. Please at least forward this thread to the proper management area at Dell and request them to let us know what is going to be done about these problems that myself and other Dell 1150 owners are experiencing. Dell is a very profitable company and of course has the resources to help and communicate to their customers.

Thanks,

Mike
