Inspiron 4150 JDIM2 memory slot problem

Hi,

Yesterday my dell inspiron 4150 stopped booting :(
I checked my manual and googled for a while, until i discovered that the problem had to do with my memory.

I have 2x256 MB PC2100 DDR-RAM, which have been working fine until now. I tested the RAM by inserting them into the JDIM1 memory slot one by one, and discovered that both ram modules worked fine. But when I insert a module in JDIM2 everything stops working, and my pc wont even boot.

Has anyone had similar problems, and is there an solution for my problem or do I have to settle with only 1 memory slot working ?

Regards from
Frank Henningsen

You'll need to replace the system board.

Ughh, not wat I had hoped for, but I agree that changing the system board would solve the problem. But since my laptop is still working with 1 memory slot, I will wait before buying a new systemboard.

Try one 512mb module in the good slot. No guarantees, but it has worked before for me.

I have the exact same problem with my Inspiron 4150.

My laptop is 2½ years old, and Dell told me that a replacement motherboard would be around 4000DKK (~740€).

I've been running the system on a single 512MB block for 2 months now - so far so good.

Wonder if this is a common problem with the 4150's...

Number of 4150s sold = tens of thousands or more

Number of 4150s reported to have lost a memory slot on the forums = less than 20 (over estimating)

Common problem?  20/50,000 = .04%

My laptop is also about 2½ years old, so it looks like a common problem with the Inspiron 4150.
