Inspiron 5100 configuration problems-Touchpad

When I first got the computer, I had full access to all the configuration settings for the Synaptics touchpad.  Now, I no longer have click and drag or virtual scrolling (among others).  I read another posting and it said I should uninstall the new mouse drivers, but I still use the external mouse and don't want to do this (and don't know how).  Another friend of mine says I might be having problems because I installed the critical patches from Microsoft.

I've installed the latest drivers for the Synaptics device, but nothing changes.  I still don't have my virtual scrolling.  I miss my virtual scrolling!

stud77,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Ideas on troubleshooting your touchpad can be found in this knowledge base article.

If your external mouse requires additional drivers, I would suspect that these drivers are conflicting with those for the touch-pad. You should remove the drivers for both pointing devices and then reinstall those for the pointing device that you wish to use.

Well you can´t have a mouse driver and a touchpad driver.I would try to get it going again uninstalling ´the mouse and touch pad in device manager, leave the mouse off.Reboot-it will want to install the touch pad.pick ´have disk´,maybe... (the mouse will still work With plug and play)
