Inspiron 5100 - will not boot up

Question

Our Inspiron 5100 will power on, but will not boot up.  It makes an inital noise, but then nothing happens.  Yesterday (once) after my husband tapped it, it did boot up.  However, since then, it has not worked.  Any suggestions?    If it is not repairable, how do I remove our important files?  Thank you!

It is probably repairable, but if you need your data, and the hard drive is OK, you can mount it in an external bay or use an adapter cable and connect it to a working system to copy your data.

If it's out of warranty, contact a mainboard repair shop - or replace the mainboard (the latter is likely to be an expensive option).

Try search on AQS Computer service.  They fixed my 5150 for $169+shipping.  I just wonder why so many owners of this 5100, 5150, and 5160 have the same problem and Dell refuse to recognize it.  I already canceled all of my company laptop purchase order thru Dell.  I'm still order the desktop systems only

Thank you, Steve.  I will follow up with that company.  We have also discontinued buying our laptops from Dell.  Too bad that Dell does not respond to the challenges.

it might be your memory module. you have 2 options, if it is under warranty call dell and get it fixed, if it's not under warantty they will ask you for approx $750 to fix it. And another option is contact aqs12@adelphia.net
