Inspiron 5150 booting problem

My machine will not boot up.  There is power because I can hear it try to boot.  The machine powers on for about 10-15 seconds and the just shuts off.  What gives?

Any suggestions?
TIA,
-Scott

Are you able to see anything on the screen? Take out the battery and try to power it up with the AC adapter alone. It is most probably a motherboard failure.:smileyindifferent:

A network adminstrator at a college once sent a pop up message to all the computers "Are you able to see me?". One of the students came running to him and said "Sir, my computer wants to know if I can see it.". He asked her "Are you able to see your computer?". She said "Yes". He said "So just click ok. There is nothing to worry about." :smileyvery-happy:

No I couldn't see anything on the screen.  I did have a flashing light on the CAPS lock.  I followed the Dell troubleshooter which instructed me to remove all CRU's.  I removed one at a time and the machine powered up and ran Windows.  It wasn't until I remove just one of the two RAM boards that it would do anything.  Onve I removed one of the two RAM boards, a message was displayed: "The memory amount has changed press F2 to enter set up or ESC to exit."  So, I removed the other memory board and swapped their locations and the machine seems to be working as good as usual.  Strange...

Thanks,
Scott

bumping around a lot can cause memory to become loose in it's cradle.  i see this happen frequently with customers i service.
