Inspiron 5150 Startup Problem

I have had a Inspiron 5150 for about 3-4 years now. My problem is that when I go to turn it on, it barely begins to engage startup before dying. A couple of times I got lucky and it booted up, but then just shuts off. a) When I turn on the computer running under battery power only, the battery light (amber colored) flashes for awhile then stops. b) When starting the computer with the power cord plugged in, the Green power light comes on, then flashes awhile, then stops. I really don't think it is the battery because I have two batteries and have tried them both and it does the same thing when plugged in. Any suggestions as to what is wrong? I'm stumped. Here are some of my specs (sorry, it's all I could find): 1 3U722 BEZEL, FEET, PLASTIC, LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.0, ABACUS 1 J1838 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, SUPER EXTENDED GRAPHICS ARRAY PLUS, STANDARD PANELS WORKING GROUP, 15, IDT 1 G1278 PROCESSOR, 80532, 3.06G, 512K, FLIP CLIP PIN GRID ARRAY 1 D0093 BATTERY, MALAYSIA DIRECT SHIP, 14.8V, 12C, LITHIUM, PANASONIC 1 7T249 BATTERY, SECOND, 14.8V, 12C, LITHIUM, SONY 1 Y1871 CARD (CIRCUIT), GRAPHICS, NVIDIA, 32M, NV34, 5150 1 1T707 HARD DRIVE, 30G, I, 9.5MM, 4.2K, TSHBA-NEPT 1 6G647 DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 128, 333, 16X64, 8K, 200 1 6G648 DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 256, 333, 32X64, 8K, 200 1 N2133 SUBASSEMBLY, Digital Video Disk Drive Read Write, 4X, HITACHI LG DATA STORAGE, ABACUS If there is any other specs that I missed, let me know. Sounds like a bad motherboard and/or internal power supply. You might be covered under the extended warranty, if you aren't still covered under your normal warranty, but you need to contact tech support right away because the 30th is the last day for the extended warranty.

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. Do you know if in order to change out the power supply, the motherboard must be changed as well?

If I am not mistaken yes, but I could be wrong. Every time I had any type of power problem they replaced the motherboard. I could very well be wrong about it though, but I had enough motherboards replaced to be pretty sure about it.

try reseating the memory modules first. check LED lights for any codes. remove memory modules first then try to check if lights gives RAM error. if it gives you RAM error, motherboard should be ok.

I replaced the RAM modules and there was no change. I called Dell Tech Support and they diagnosed it as a "reed failure" in the Palm Rest assembly. Any comments on this? I wouldn't have thought it to be located there.. Any info anyone can give would be great.
